to Margaret &
Colin Waugh and Colimar Shetland Sheepdogs

We bought
our first sheltie (Lassie) as a pet, when we got
married. She was very
big with a brilliant temperament and imprinted the breed
into our lives.
Having
said that a work colleague of Colin's had a Beagle and
took us to see some puppies, so our next dog was a
Beagle called Molly. She also had a good
temperament and was a great character, a good pal
for our daughter, Julie. She
spent
most of her life getting into mischief. We lost
her at thirteen and vowed never to have another dog as
it was so upsetting when they died.

We came to live in the Rossendale Valley
a semi-rural area with plenty of moorland
walks,
but with no dogs to walk you tend not to go out walking,
so we bought another sheltie, Silver. He was 7
mths old, we took him to a few Limit and Open Shows as a
puppy, but he grew too big. Toby our next sheltie
came to live with us and not knowing what we were
looking for in a puppy, he also grew very big.
They
gave
us a lot of pleasure taking them on holiday and weekend
outings into the Yorkshire Dales, but we did want to get
back into showing.

Jimmy (Salroyd Black Jet) and Tina
(Longdell's Blue Pearl at Colimar) were the next
additions
to our family, and we purchased our affix 'Colimar' in 1990. They
were
better for
showing and we had many enjoyable days going to shows all over the
country.
We bought a caravan so that we could take all 4 dogs on holiday with us.
Jimmy
died at 10 years old and we lost Tina at just over 15
years.

We were both co-opted onto the Mid
Western Shetland Sheepdog Club Committee in 1993 and Colin became Show
Secretary in 1996 . We also work very closely with
Margaret Dobson (Club Secretary) running the sheltie rescue for the Mid
Western. Colin and I have been to many lectures on the breed and Colin
has passed the Mid Western/English assessment of judges scheme, the Kennel
Club judging exams and has enjoyed judging the breed on many occasions.
We didn't show for a number of years as
we had nothing to show, but in 2003 we bought another bitch
(Snabswood
Smint of Colimar ) and that got us showing again.
As well as the shelties we show, we have also got a few
pet shelties and we only breed shelties, perhaps every
two years as we have limited space.
As well as dog
showing our hobbies are gardening and Colin dabbles in photography.
